Lancaster County jobless rate drops again; but nothing has truly improved

The unemployment rate in Lancaster County fell to 7.8 percent in August, the state Department of Labor & Industry reported Monday.

By dipping from July’s 8.0 percent, the jobless rate here continued to hover in the same narrow half-point range where it’s been lingering for months.

Since December, the Lancaster County rate has been as low as 7.8 percent (three times) and as high as 8.3 percent (once).

“It’s encouraging to see a decline, but it’s definitely too soon to say that a recovery has taken root,” said Ryan Horner, a L&I analyst.

“It needs to continue for a prolonged period.”
